The racehorse Intrepidity achieved a time of 2 mins, 31.19 seconds at the Oaks in 1993. Intrepidity was a three year old fillie when she won the world record for the Oaks in 1993. Her dam and sire were Sadler's Wells and Intrepid Lady. It was the 12th Earl of Derby who was instrumental in starting the Oaks at Epsom in 1779. Although best remembered for his love of horse racing, his favourite hobby was cock fighting, which he would often stage in his drawing room after dinner, much to the horror of his wife!
